WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- U.S. officials have captured Osama bin Laden's son-in-law, a suspected member of al Qaeda, in Jordan, according to a senior congressman.
Peter King (R-New York) is former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. King says Sulaiman Abu Ghaith was captured within the last week. He says the capture was confirmed to him by U.S. law enforcement officials.
King says Ghaith was part of the September 11, 2001, plot against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
On Thursday, King called Ghaith's capture, quote, a "very significant victory" in U.S. efforts against al-Qaida.
ABC News is reporting a source familiar with the case says Ghaith is in federal custody in New York City and is expected to appear before a federal magistrate Friday.
