STANLEY - An area police officer charged with sexual assault has retired.
The Stanley City Council meets Monday to accept the letter of retirement from 58-year old Terry Karlen. City officials say he did not give any advance notice.
Karlen was charged last year with sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman in June. She told investigators that she asked Karlen, who was off-duty, to give her a ride home, because she had been drinking and didn't want to drive.
Instead he allegedly drove her to a cemetery and sexually assaulted her.
Karlen is due in court on the sexual assault charge next month.
