Extra patrolling St. Patrick's Day weekend

Posted:

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - If you have plans to head out this holiday weekend, law enforcement is reminding you to plan a sober ride.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department will have increased patrolling this St.Patrick's Day weekend, thanks to a grant from the Department of Transportation. The sheriff's department will have about 30 extra man hours out on the road.

Lt. Mitch Gibson, with the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, says, "I think it definitely does make an effect if people either coming or going from establishments see that there's a squad out there and actively working traffic violations, definitely weights in on their decision."

The DOT is also using this weekend to introduce a new drive sober app. The app includes a blood alcohol estimator, designated driver selector, and way to search for a ride. The app is free, just type in "Zero in Wisconsin" to your app store.
