Eau Claire Episcopalians consecrate new bishop

Eau Claire (WQOW) - This week the eyes of Catholics across the world have been on Vatican City as a new pope was selected.

Saturday, Episcopalians in Eau Claire welcomed their new leader to town. Jay Lambert was elected the 6th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Eau Claire. He is coming to our area after working with a diocese in Florida. Lambert was consecrated at a service Saturday morning and says he looks forward to learning about Eau Claire and the rest of western Wisconsin.

"There are 19 other congregations that run through the diocese of Eau Claire which runs from La Crosse to Superior. So I have that responsibility for the deployment, the nurturing of those congregations. My main job is to build up each of these congregations and hopefully form new ones," said Bishop Jay Lambert.

There are 12,000 Episcopalians across the state of Wisconsin. Bishop Lambert is just the 6th bishop selected to lead the Eau Claire diocese.
