Madison's favorite "leprechaun" changes the lives of local children

MADISON (WKOW) -- The St. Patrick's Day parade is going on Sunday in downtown Madison.

It's a great event for the whole family and also a way to learn about local non-profit groups. The parade will be at 1:30 p.m. at Capitol Square.

Leading the St. Patrick's Day parade will be Joe Herr, Madison's favorite leprechaun. He joins Wake Up Wisconsin Weekend to talk about the local non-profits highlighted at the parade. Herr's non-profit, "Logan's Heart and Smiles" will be featured.

This non-profit foundation adapts the homes of children with physical disabilities to make them safe and accessible. Logan's Heart and Smiles provides free labor and materials, based on income, to help ease the burden from families.

The organization was started in honor of Logan James Herr, Joe's son, who died at the age of four with complications from pneumonia. Logan was born in 1997 with cerebral palsy.
