Criminal charges filed in accidental handgun discharge case

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Criminal charges are filed for an incident last month where a gun fired inside a car, injuring two people.

Deputies were called to a driveway on Blakeley Avenue on Eau Claire's south side last month. A woman had a gunshot wound to her arm, and a James Carlson had a gunshot wound to his hand.

Investigators say Carlson told them he had just gotten a pistol and was "being stupid", put a loaded magazine in the gun, and was playing with it on the drive home. He said the gun went off as he was putting it back in the box. The woman told detectives that Carlson had smoked marijuana several hours before the incident.

Carlson has now been charged with recklessly endangering safety, which is a felony.
