Barron County (Press Release) - On Monday, March 18, 2013, at 6:08 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a report of a head-on crash on Hwy 8 at 5th Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a Ford Bronco driven by Chantley Zillyette, age 69, of Turtle Lake lost control on the ice covered roads and crossed the center line and struck a Saturn driven by Gene Broom, 51, of St Croix Falls.
Both subjects were extricated from the vehicle and Broom was transported to Barron Hospital with head injuries and Zillyette was transported to Cumberland Hospital and later taken to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire with severe injuries.
Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, Turtle Lake Police
Department, Turtle Lake First Responders, Cumberland Ambulance, Mayo
Ambulance and Almena Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
On Monday between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., Law Enforcement officers in Barron County handled 19 accidents/vehicles in the ditch across the county.
