MADISON (WKOW) -- A prominent banker with a history of community involvement is facing child sex charges.
Authorities say 49-year old Michael Daniel of Sun Prairie victimized a 13-year old acquaintance.
A criminal complaint states Daniel was briefly alone with the girl earlier this month. The complaint states Daniel offered to give the teen a massage, but also tried to lift up her shirt. Documents state when Daniel and the child returned to a couch, Daniel touched the girl sexually and then forced the teen to touch him sexually. Court records say the child told a relative what happened.
Daniel is charged with two felony counts of second degree sexual assault of a child under the age of sixteen. He's free on a signature bond, after making a Monday court appearance.
Daniel is a business banker with Starion Bank of Middleton. He's also had roles with several, community organizations, has been a fundraiser for non-profit groups, and lists himself on his professional biography as a volunteer soccer and basketball coach.
His bail conditions include having no contact with any juvenile girls unless he's supervised by a responsible adult.
According to the criminal complaint, Daniel told a Sun Prairie police officer the girl may have misinterpreted his action during the massage.
A status conference in Daniel's case is scheduled next month. Daniel's attorney has yet to return a call from 27 News.
