Eau Claire ranks 17th in county health rankings

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The annual county health rankings are out and although Eau Claire is one of the healthiest in the state, the health department says there's lot of room for improvement.

Eau Claire finished 17th out of 72 counties when looking at overall health.  The rankings weigh factors like education, unemployment rates, smoking and obesity, just to name a few.  The county finished in the top five statewide for clinical care.  But the health department says improvements need to be made in connection with alcohol and drug abuse, chronic disease, and mental health.

"All of the counties in our state need improvement, so it doesn't necessarily mean that things are not problematic and don't need attention here," says Director of Nursing Kitty Rahl.

The rankings include a snapshot of each county in Wisconsin.  Eau Claire County will hold a public meeting to talk about ways to improve overall health on April 4th at the RCU Community Room beginning at 6 p.m.
