MADISON (WKOW) -- The State Building Commission approved Governor Scott Walker's (R-Wisconsin) recommendation for a new $197 million Department of Transportation building at its Thursday afternoon meeting.

It is the highest priced item in the Governor's 2013-2015 capital budget.

The new DOT building would be erected right next to the current headquarters on Sheboygan Avenue in Madison.  Construction on the new building would start in 2014.  Once its finished, the old headquarters would be torn down and the land its on will be sold.

The SBC also approved a number of improvements to the UW-Madison campus, including $47 million for renovations to Sellery and Witte residence halls and $42 million for phase two of the Memorial Union renovations.
