TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WKOW) -- The S.S. Badger will continue sailing while its owner decides how to make the ferry cleaner.
The Environmental Protection Agency had previously ordered the ship to stop dropping coal ash into Lake Michigan by last December. But under a new agreement, the S.S. Badger now has until the end of the 2014 sailing season to make the change.
The owner of the ferry says the deal will save 200 jobs
The 60-year-old ferry hauls cars and people across the lake between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wis., between May and October.
There will be a 30-day period for public comment on the proposed deal.
