MADISON (WKOW) -- A republican state assemblyman is calling for open season on groundhogs, which are also known as woodchucks, in Wisconsin.
Representative Andre Jacque of DePere is working on legislation that would remove woodchucks from the state's protected species list and open a season for them that would run from March through December.
Back in 2009, hunters approved a woodchuck season during hearings with the Wisconsin Conservation Congress.
