Logging truck crashes and leaves area highway closed for hours

Buffalo County (WQOW) - A logging truck crash injures the driver and leaves an area highway closed for more than six hours.

It happened Friday afternoon  on highway 35 in Fountain City. The Buffalo County Sheriff's Department says  56-year-old Edward Appel from Taylor, saw something fall from the back of his truck. As he was looking in the mirror, he failed to see a curve and drove into the opposite lane.

The truck hit a guardrail, spun out of control, and rolled over. The sheriff's department says the truck engine caught fire.  A semi driver stopped to help get Appel out of the truck and put out the flames. Appel has already been treated and released from the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
