Local dam may be repaired

Eau Claire County (WQOW) - A dam in distress is now on the path to being fixed.

Monday night, the Land Conservation Commission approved repairs to Johnson Dam in Eau Claire County.  The dam, which lowers the risk of flash flooding in areas like Augusta, is rusting and in danger of collapsing.  The commission hopes to pay for the repairs by partnering with those who benefit from the dam.

"Some of the things we're looking for in the partnerships include time, labor, equipment, cash is always good... anything they can bring to the table to help," says Eau Claire County Land Conservation Supervisor Kelly Jacobs.

The total price tag to repair the dam is not clear at this point.  In the past, the board has said that abandoning the dam could cost nearly $100,000.
