State superintendent candidate campaigns in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The spring election is a week away and a candidate hoping to become the next state superintendent is doing some last minute campaigning.

State Representative Don Pridemore was in Eau Claire this week to talk about his race challenging incumbent School Superintendent Tony Evers.  Pridemore says he would like to form more partnerships between businesses and schools to bridge a skills gap by teaching students skills employees are looking for.  He says that partnership could help schools upgrade technology in the classroom.

"I've been involved in technology all my life as an electronics engineer working for Badger Meter and Johnson Controls, two great Wisconsin companies, so I know how important technology is," says Pridemore.  "Kids are really tuned into it these days so we have to take advantage of that."

Pridemore says if he's elected, one of the first things he would do is audit the Department of Public Instruction.  He also says he supports Governor Walker's plan to expand the state's school voucher program.  Superintendent Evers is against the proposal.  Polls open at 7 a.m. next Tuesday here in Eau Claire.
