Case against man accused of killing wife suspended

RUSK COUNTY - The case being built against a Rusk County man who's accused of killing his wife has been suspended.

A judge Tuesday found that Donald Lazar is incompetent, meaning he cannot understand the court proceedings or assist in his defense. The judge made that ruling based on an examination done by a court-appointed psychologist.

Lazar, from rural Hawkins, is accused of shooting his wife, Darlene, twice at their home in late December.

The judge today ordered that Lazar be held at a state mental institution. Doctors will then provide updates on his progress. The psychologist told the court that he believes Lazar will eventually recover to a point where he is able to stand trial.
