Eau Claire (WQOW) -- UW-Eau Claire has a very good softball tradition, but prior to this year, the Blugolds' best start to a season was 10-2 in 1997.
UWEC has started 2013 with an 11-1 record. After a week in Florida, the the team is back on campus Tuesday and back indoors for a workout.
Even with all the wins, head coach Leslie Huntington says there are a lot of things the Blugolds can do better.
"We had a couple of games that were really ugly defensively and I wasn't real happy with that because we've really put a lot of pride into our defense so far this spring," Huntington says, "the players know it and honestly one of the best ways to clean that up is to get outside. Overall I'm really pleased with where we are, I'm not sure that we've ever started a season 11-1."
"This team has just really come together on its own," says senior infielder Sarah Fern, "we've had a lot of time obviously in the beginning, in the fall, and we really meshed well and learned to play together really well. And I think overall they've kind of found that spot for them and things are working out really well for us."
The Blugolds are back on the road later this week, as UW-Eau Claire heads to Iowa for games Friday and Saturday.
