Dane County leaders urging support for same-day registration referendum

MADISON (WKOW) -- Several Dane county leaders are pushing to keep voter registration available at Wisconsin polls on election day.

Dance County Executive Joe Parisi and County Clerk Scott McDonell will be talking with voters Wednesday at the city county building, urging them to support a referendum on Tuesday's spring ballot.

It is an advisory measure, that asks voters if they think Wisconsin should keep same-day voter registration.

Same-day registration has been law in Wisconsin for decades, but some want to get rid of it. A number of state lawmakers believe it increases the risk of fraud, while supporters argue election day registration keeps Wisconsin's voter turnout among the highest in the nation.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m.
