UPDATE: Eau Claire home destroyed by fire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Flames destroy a home on Eau Claire's East Hill. It started around 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Main Street. 

The homeowner says his girlfriend was home when the fire started with his daughter. She was able to get out of the house with the child. A cat was also rescued and sent to a vet's office. 

No one was injured in the fire, although the house is expected to be a total loss.

"I'm glad to see that everybody's safe, and stuff like that, but it's really hard to know that everything is gone that you need in everyday life -- a roof over your head, bed, clothes, all that stuff is gone," says Caleb Prusinski, the homeowner.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.


Press Release from the Eau Claire Fire Department: At 10:09 on 03/27/13 the Eau Claire Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in a home on the City's eastside. We arrived to find smoke coming from the first floor.

All occupants were out of the home when we arrived. First crew to arrive quickly assessed the situation and pulled fire hoses to extinguish the fire. First in crew encountered thick black smoke and extreme high heat. Just after entering the home the crew had heavy fire in the front room of the home. They extinguished fire on first floor but the fire had extended to the second floor. Additional crews fought fire on both the first and second floor.

As the fire extended into the second floor of the home, firefighters experience limited access to the second floor do to structural damage to the interior stairs.

Other crews assisted interior firefighting by ventilating the roof. Ventilation holes were completed with the help of the ladder on Truck 6.

After the initial fire attack, crews were kept busy locating and extinguishing fire in the second floor and roof area.

Fire inspector was on scene conducting the initial fire investigation.

No estimate on damage at this point.


Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Eau Claire Fire Department is still fighting a fire on the 800 block of Main Street. Everyone made it out of the building safely. The homeowner says he was home at the time and was able to get out, along with his cat. The fire department says they're not sure what started the fire.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The Eau Claire Fire Department is battling a fire on the 800 block of Main Street. The Eau Claire Police Department says the road is blocked off between Winter Street and Talmadge Street in that area, so please avoid the area.There's not word on what caused the fire or if there were any injuries. It started around 10:00 a.m.
