No jail time for man involved in police standoff

STANLEY - The Stanley man involved in a five-hour armed standoff with police won't have to serve any time in jail.

Joshua Walters has been put on probation for two years, and was ordered to do five days of community service. Police were called to Walters' home last month after his girlfriend said she came home to find him making methamphetamine.

She said she was packing to leave when he started beating her and threatening to kill her, her mother, and her dog if she left. He was allegedly holding a gun that fired during the incident. She escaped without serious injury, and a SWAT team eventually forced its way into the house and arrested Walters.

As part of his sentence he must get domestic abuse counseling, cannot have any contact with the woman, and cannot drink, do drugs, or possess any weapons.
