Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire Regis baseball team has seen steady improvement the past couple of years, including a third place finish in the Western Cloverbelt Conference a year ago.
The next step for the Ramblers will be competing for a conference title. That is something that head coach Andy Niese believes his team is fully capable of accomplishing. To do so, the team will need to focus on the little things.
"It's really just about the same philosophy to start just about every year, it's ball skills, fundamental things such as throwing, catching, taking the ball out of your glove and getting rid of it quickly. Hitting, squaring the ball up," says Niese.
Senior Nick Stanke agrees: "First few weeks we just got to get our fundamentals down, it's difficult in the gym especially with the fielding because you have limited space and it's hard to replicate a field but we just got to try and improve each day."
If the team can do that, they see no reason the strides they've made the past few years can't continue this season.
"We're ready to make that jump, the last few years we've been steadily improving every year that I've been here. Last year we were 500, and hopefully this year we will have a winning season and contend for a conference title," adds senior Nick Jones.
