Inmate attacks two Marathon County officers

MARATHON COUNTY (WKOW) -- Authorities in Marathon County say one corrections officer is out of the hospital, but another is still there after an inmate attacked them.

Authorities say the two officers were making rounds inside the jail around noon Wednesday when the attack happened.

The sheriff's office is releasing few details now, but right after the incident County Administrator Brad Karger said the attack raises some serious concerns.

"They were inside the pod with the inmate," Karger said. "I don't think anything was happening outside the norm, at least not that I'm aware of. It's a very dangerous job."

Sheriff's officials say the male corrections officer involved has been released from the hospital, but the female officer remains hospitalized.

More information is expected to be released at a new conference next Tuesday.
