Patients of Oklahoma dentist line up for tests

TULSA, Okla. (WKOW) -- Health officials say hundreds of patients of an Oklahoma oral surgeon accused of unsanitary practices showed up to be tested for HIV and hepatitis.

The Tulsa Health Department said 420 patients of Dr. W. Scott Harrington lined up Saturday. Letters went out a day earlier to 7,000 of the doctor's patients, warning them that poor hygiene at his clinics created a public health hazard.

Screenings resume Monday morning.

Inspectors found a number of problems at Harrington's clinics in Tulsa and suburban Owasso. A 17-count complaint against him calls him a menace to public health. He's been practicing for more than 30 years.

Investigators say one of Harrington's patients, with no known risk factors, recently tested positive for HIV and Hepatitis C, which led to the surprise inspection.
