Chancellors urge lawmakers to pass Gov. Walker's budget

MADISON (WKOW) -- The chancellors in the University of Wisconsin System are urging lawmakers to approve higher education funding in Governor Scott Walker's budget proposal.

A letter to Wisconsin legislators is signed by all the chancellors. They say if funding for higher education is approved at the proposed level, tuition would still go up but by the lowest amount in a decade.

The chancellors also say the budget will provide performance-based funding for economic development, workforce development and college affordability; startup funding for the innovative UW Flexible Option; the ability to address critical quality and compensation needs at all UW institutions; and investments in UW facilities that serve students and advance science.
