State elections board to nominate new member

MADISON (WKOW) – The state board that oversees elections in Wisconsin is meeting on Tuesday to nominate two candidates to Gov. Scott Walker to fill a vacant seat.

Seven candidates are competing for the seat on the Government Accountability Board left by Judge Thomas Cane of Wausau who will be ending his six-year term on May 1.

Whoever Walker selects must also be confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate.   Cane will continue to serve on the board if the governor does not make an appointment by May 21.

The board is comprised of six former judges who serve staggered six-year terms.  They oversee elections and enforce campaign finance and ethics laws in the state.
