LANCASTER (WKOW) -- Over two million Americans are affected every year by epilepsy. It's a medical condition that produces seizures affecting mental and physical functions. And this weekend there will be a run/walk to raise funds for research.

The 2013 Epilepsy Run/Walk and Casino Night is this Saturday in Lancaster. Registration begins in the St. Clement Church basement at 8:00 am. Runners start time is 9:00 a.m. and fitness walkers and strollers begin at 9:10 a.m.

Later adults can join in some gambling at Casino Night. It runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at St. Clement Church.

Proceeds from Saturday's events will support the Epilepsy Foundation Research Challenge and the Epilepsy Foundation Heart of Wisconsin. The funds will support epilepsy research and help families in Wisconsin who are dealing with the obstacles that seizures bring to their lives.

In addition to supporting research, proceeds will help support toll-free information and referral, emergency medication, scholarships to Summer Camp for Kids with Epilepsy, and social and recreational opportunities for children, adults and seniors.

Art Taggart, from the Epilepsy Foundation Heart of Wisconsin, and Nicole Mclean, with Moms on a Mission, joined us on 27 News at 5 on Tuesday.
