MADISON (WKOW) -- Scott Walker appointee Rebecca St. John failed to keep her Dane County Circuit Court Judge seat, losing to Rhonda Lanford in Tuesday's election.
Late Tuesday evening, Lanford led St. John 52.5%-47.4%, with 187 precincts reporting and just 11 outstanding. But Lanford was being reported as the winner.
Lanford used St. John's appointment by Wisconsin's Republican governor last year as a campaign issue in a county that generally votes heavily Democratic, though St. John won the endorsements of several leading Madison progressives, most notably Mayor Paul Soglin.
But Lanford had prominent endorsements, as well, from the likes of U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan and State Rep. Chris Taylor.
