Madison woman can stand trial in sister's death

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Dane County judge ruled a Madison woman is competent to stand trial in the death of her sister.

73-year-old Veronica King faces several charges including first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 72-year-old Mary Coleman.

Prosecutors say King left Coleman to die on the floor of King's home in May of 2009.

In January, King was deemed not competent to stand trial, but Judge Julie Genovese changed her ruling Wednesday after reviewing a doctor's report.

King's attorneys plan to contest the report's finding at an evidentiary hearing in July.

King's son, Steven King, is also charged in the case. In October, he was deemed not competent to stand trial.
