FAA extends deadline for Chippewa Valley air traffic control tower

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The FAA is moving the closure date of Chippewa Valley Regional Airport's control tower back.

The airport was originally notified it would have to close its tower May 5th.

Friday the FAA announced a new date of June 15th.

It will use the extra time to educate pilots and the public on changes the closures may cause.

Airports will lose federal funding and the Chippewa Valley tower will close on June 15th, but could still remain open if a private donor or other organization steps forward to fund daily operations.

The airport says that's unlikely.

Currently legislators are planning to introduce a bill early next week aimed at keeping air towers open.
