American Cancer Society says goodbye to decades old fundraiser

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A forty year old fundraiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society is ending next spring.

Daffodil Days was a big success this year with community members and local students raising thousands of dollars to brighten cancer patients' days, and help find a cure.

But in 2014 the organization says it will no longer run the event because it will instead use resources for other programs like relay for life.

"Back in its heyday of course there were daffodils everywhere and we had hundreds of coordinators.  Of course that's diminished over the years, but the impact, especially at the local hospitals has been great" says Roberta Christensen of the American Cancer Society.

Next spring, in place of daffodil days, the American Cancer Society is starting its push for relay for life and other fundraisers earlier.

The society is a century old organization that's always looking for volunteers and donations to find a cure for cancer.
