Wisconsin village limits new fast-food restaurants

Posted:

RICHFIELD, Wis. (AP) -- A Wisconsin community is saying no to new fast-food restaurants in residential neighborhoods.

The plan commission in Richfield voted this week to ban construction of new fast-food restaurants in areas that are largely residential. Jim Healy is the assistant to the village administrator, and he says officials thought that was in the best interests of the community.

Fast-food restaurants can still be built in more commercial sections of the village that's about 25 miles northwest of Milwaukee.

The West Bend Daily News reports that the commission defined fast-food restaurants as those where customers order food at a counter, generally pay when they get their order and the food is mostly served in disposable containers.

Sit-down restaurants are not affected by the ban approved Thursday.
