8 ice fishermen rescued from Lake Michigan

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- Warm weather means dangerous conditions on the lakes. This weekend, eight ice fishermen had to be rescued from four different spots near Green Bay.

Strong winds caused the ice to shift in some spots on Lake Michigan, leaving many of those anglers stranded. The U.S. Coast Guard and Door County fire departments responded on Saturday on the Green Bay side of the peninsula.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports at least two of the anglers didn't know they needed to be rescued until they saw a helicopter overhead and an airboat coming to get them.

Even though the ice shifted, it was still thick enough to support all-terrain vehicles and even pickup trucks.

Officials say none of the fishermen required medical attention.
