City council approves "coat-of-arms" for Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The city council gives the go-ahead for a coat-of-arms to represent Eau Claire.

The city currently does not have a coat-of-arms. Tuesday night, the council approved a design, which includes the motto: "Move Together Always" written in French. But some council members questioned part of the design, including an image of "peace pipes" at the top of the crest.

"There's some representations to our Native American culture at the top, and those are the two peace pipes. Now the question that was raised was whether those are appropriate, they would need to be researched," says Dave Duax, with the Eau Claire City Council.

The design will be brought back before the city council in September for final approval.

Also Tuesday night, the city council approved re-zoning for the Princeton Crossing development. Plans call for a bank, a major retailer, several smaller retailers and a convenience store to be located off the north crossing at Black Avenue. Also Tuesday night, the council also approved the sale of RCU property in the Phoenix Park area to software developer "JAMF". RCU had planned on building a second office space in that spot, but will no longer do so.
