Road closures in Jackson Co. due to flooding

Posted:

Jackson County (Press Release) - Jackson County Emergency Management advises that there are several road closures due to flooding along the Black River.

Currently, East Fork Road in the Town of Komensky near Hatfield has been closed from Clay School Road and South Road.  Also, County Highway VV in the near North Bend is closed from Highway 54 to the LaCrosse County Line.

Jackson County Emergency Management Coordinator, Kristina Page, urges residents to be mindful of rising water, especially over roadways.

"Vehicles can be swept away with as little as 18 inches moving water and it is hard to judge the actual depth of flood water," Page says.

People are being asked to avoid travel into affected areas and if traveling and you encounter water over the roadway do not drive through it. Turn around and find an alternate route. Do not go around road barriers.

As of this time, there have been no reports of residential flooding. However, Page reminds residents to be prepared in case the conditions change rapidly.

"If you live in areas that are prone to flooding it is important that you have an evacuation kit prepared and pay attention to weather warning.  Conditions can change rapidly and being prepared can make all the difference," Page advises.

If residents of Jackson County are experiencing problems with flooding, they are urged to contact Jackson County Emergency Management  at 715-284-0263.
