UPDATE: Capitol police officer remains hospitalized after stabbing

Posted:

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The Department of Administration says Capitol police officer Greg Friberg is in stable condition and recuperating after suffering two stab wounds to the neck.

The incident happened at the State office building in Milwaukee Wednesday afternoon.  Friberg and another officer were confronted by a male suspect when he stabbed Friberg in the neck and fled.

Stephanie Marquis, a spokeswoman for the DOA, says the officers were not responding to a hostage situation.  It was a "duress alarm."

Police later arrested the suspect, a 25-year-old man from West Allis.

Officer Friberg has been an limited term employee with the Capitol Police Department since 2001.  He is frequently assigned to patrol the State office building in Milwaukee and he serves as a Lieutenant at State Fair Park.

The DOA continues to work closely with the City of Milwaukee Police Department as they conduct their investigation.
