MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The Department of Administration says Capitol police officer Greg Friberg is in stable condition and recuperating after suffering two stab wounds to the neck.
The incident happened at the State office building in Milwaukee Wednesday afternoon. Friberg and another officer were confronted by a male suspect when he stabbed Friberg in the neck and fled.
Stephanie Marquis, a spokeswoman for the DOA, says the officers were not responding to a hostage situation. It was a "duress alarm."
Police later arrested the suspect, a 25-year-old man from West Allis.
Officer Friberg has been an limited term employee with the Capitol Police Department since 2001. He is frequently assigned to patrol the State office building in Milwaukee and he serves as a Lieutenant at State Fair Park.

The suspect is a 25-year-old man from West Allis. His identity has not been released.

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- The Department of Administration has issued a statement regarding the Capitol police officer stabbed at a state office building in downtown Milwaukee Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m., two Capitol police officers responded to a duress alarm on the fourth floor of the building. The two officers were confronted by a male suspect who stabbed one of them in the neck. The injured officer was taken to a Milwaukee hospital and is in stable condition. No other State employees have reported any injuries.
The scene has been secured by the City of Milwaukee Police Department, who is leading the investigation in cooperation with Capitol Police.
The suspect fled and officers continue to search the area for him.

Our affiliate in Milwaukee, WISN-TV, reports the officer was stabbed in the throat. He was taken to Froedtert Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect got away.
A source in the Milwaukee Police Department told WISN that the officer was in the Department of Revenue office in a building on Sixth and Wells streets.
