Body found in Nebraska is that of a WI fugitive

NORTH PLATTE, NE (WKOW) -- A body found nearly a year ago along the South Platte River in Nebraska is that of a Wisconsin fugitive, according to authorities.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says DNA samples and other evidence led authorities to conclude they had found 64-year-old Denys Ray Hughes.

Hughes was from Wisconsin and had been convicted in 2006 for trying to make a biological toxin and for making pipe bombs.  He was sentenced to 87 months in a federal prison.

In May 2011 he was put on a bus to transfer to a Milwaukee halfway house.  He never showed up and authorities believe Hughes got off the bus along Interstate 80.

His body was found April 20, 2012 near North Platte.  Authorities believe he died of natural causes.
