Golfers will have to wait to tee off at area courses

Eau Claire (WQOW) - While The Masters starts Thursday in Georgia, golfers here in the Chippewa Valley will be waiting a few more weeks for their chance to tee off.

After snow showers this morning, there are still several inches of powder on the fairways at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire. All of that snow will need to be melted before golfers can hit the links, and the ground will likely be too wet for anyone to play for at least a week. It means the season may be shorter by several weeks. And compared to last year, it will definitely fall short.

"I've been up in Eau Claire for nine years, last year was definitely the earliest I've ever opened, by a lot. And this is going to be the latest. I think the latest prior to this was April 9th that we've opened in the last 8 years. We were definitely playing golf on St. Patrick's Day last year," said Jim Buyze, PGA Professional

Princeton Valley Golf Course in Eau Claire was hoping to open next week Tuesday before Thursday's snowfall. With more snow predicted for early next week, both courses will just have to wait.
