Durand businesses see flooding in basements

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Floodwaters are up in Durand, and that means riverfront businesses have had to empty their basements.

The Chippewa River is a couple of inches above flood stage Thursday. That's according to the Pepin County Emergency Management Director. Some lower-lying businesses already have water in their basements, nearly a foot deep. That means it's time to get the product off the floor and headed for higher ground.

"We probably have about 50 or so tree stands down there, and they probably all weigh about 75 pounds a piece so it takes a couple people a couple of days to get it all out of there. We store a lot of our spare products down there so we took out just what we needed, and I think we'll be ok," said Tyler Pronschinske of Ryan's Sport Shop.

According to the National Weather Service, the Chippewa River is supposed to crest in Durand later on Thursday night, but its not expected to rise much more. The city has closed the walking path along the river until further notice.
