Volunteers honored at Jefferson Awards Banquet

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - 12 outstanding community members were put in the spotlight Thursday night.

The second annual Jefferson Awards Banquet was held at the Florian Gardens in Eau Claire, honoring this year's 12 award winners. Throughout the year, we here at WQOW News 18, along with the Marshfield Clinic, have been recognizing volunteers who go above and beyond. Thursday night, one volunteer was surprised with a trip to Washington D.C. John Finney will be honored at the National Jefferson Awards Ceremony in June.

"It's just amazing what happens when all these families get together, because they always think they're alone, but they're really not. So they come to camp and they find that this isn't a road they have to take by themselves, this is a road they can be on with many other people," says Finney.

John is the founder of a local camp, designed for children facing cancer. Kids and their families get to attend camp for free.

Make sure to join us Monday April 22nd after the 6-o'clock newscast to learn more about these outstanding volunteers. Our special: The Jefferson Awards, Honoring Hometown Volunteers, begins at 6:30.
