Hit-and-run victim honored

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Family and friends honored a hit-and-run victim in a fitting way Friday.

52-year-old Maureen Mengelt was an avid runner, so at her visitation in Sun Prairie, people who came wore running shoes.

Authorities say Mengelt was hit and killed by a drunk driver while she was jogging last weekend.

Those who knew Mengelt say running was one of her passions.

That's also why they've put flowers in shoes near the scene of the crash along Highway 19 in Sun Prairie.

Mengelt's funeral is Saturday.
