2 Wisconsin women charged with human trafficking

RIVER GROVE, Ill. (WKOW) -- Two Wisconsin women have been charged with human trafficking involving a juvenile in Illinois.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Shannon Hathaway of Stoughton and 33-year-old Elizabeth Roeder of Milwaukee were charged with involuntary servitude of a minor and trafficking for labor/benefits.

Investigators responded to an ad on the website Backpage.com and an undercover officer was allegedly offered sex in exchange for money. The sting happened Wednesday at the Super 8 Motel in River Grove, Illinois.

Police say Roeder and Hathaway were placing ads with photos of the juvenile and themselves under the "Escorts" section of the website. Bond was set Saturday for Hathaway at $175,000 and Roeder at $150,000.

The Sheriff's Department says the victim has been reunited with family.
