WI lawmaker pushes for tougher domestic abuse legislation

MADISON (WKOW) -- Representative Andre Jacque of De Pere says victims of domestic abuse need better protection.

His legislation would require police officers to file reports to explain reasons why they did not arrest a suspected abuser.  The legislation would also categorize stalking as an act of domestic violence.  It would also allow authorities to use more evidence in building cases against suspects.

The legislation has some bipartisan support.  It has been praised by an advocacy group, and a brother of a woman who was killed by her husband in Brookfield last October.
