Model train show gives kids a look at small scale railroads

Menomonie (WQOW) - A weekend train show featured rail cars and tracks on a smaller scale.

Sunday was the end of the Happy Grandparents Model Train Show at the Menomonie Middle School. Those in attendance were able to get an up close look at how some of the moving models worked. Nearly 50 different model train layouts were on display. Event organizers say some took over seven hours to set up.

"We had a couple of the larger layouts that were unable to make it back this year, so I was able to fill those spots with six brand new layouts. So you're going to see everything from a small briefcase size up to a layout that's thirty feet by fifty feet. That's as big as a house," said event coordinator Janelle Hinrichs.

This weekend marked the 12th annual Happy Grandparents Model Train Show.
