One killed in St. Croix County crash

St. Croix County (Press Release) - On Monday, April 15, 2013 at 5:41 a.m. the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle crash on County Highway A approximately .3 of a mile north of County Highway G in Richmond Township.

A 1993 Toyota Camry, driven by Yeng Yang, 61, of St. Paul, Minn. was northbound on County Highway A. A 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Kelly Wilcox, 31, of Maplewood, Minn., was southbound on County Highway A.

According to evidence at the scene, Yang lost control on the roadway while attempting to negotiate a curve. The car went sideways in the roadway and into the southbound lane of traffic where it was struck by Wilcox in the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch and partially in the southbound lane of traffic. Road conditions appear to be a factor in the crash as the road was icy in spots when the sheriff's department arrived.

Wilcox was transported to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond with unknown injuries. A passenger in the Wilcox car, Allen Matheus, 35, of St. Paul, Minn., was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with unknown injuries.

Yang was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner's Office.

All three occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Assisting at the scene was the New Richmond Police Department, New Richmond Fire and Rescue and New Richmond EMS.

This is the 1st fatality in St. Croix County in 2013.

The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
