Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Immanuel Lutheran baseball team went 20-9 last season, including a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal win over McDonell Central.
This year's Lancers team looks to be a Dairyland Conference contender with a solid pitching staff.
"We have most of our pitching back," says Immanuel Lutheran head coach Joe Lau, "so we hope to be able to improve on last years season. With as many condensed games as we are going to have, with perhaps as many as 6 or 7 games in a week it will be nice to have some consistency on the mound that we can count on."
"I think our biggest strength will be our pitching," says Lancers senior pitcher/infielder Aaron Wilke, "we have arms that are consistent and go out and day to day do their job, that's big. If we could go out and win the Regional Final that would be great, I mean we've been there three times in the last four years I think, so if we get a win it would be awesome."
After last year's postseason success, the Lancers are determined to extend their season even further.
"We definitely want to get over that hump of making it to the regional finals two of the last four years," says Lancers senior catcher Curtis Sandeen, "get past that and win the regional finals and then hopefully go as far as possible."
'I thought we finished the season pretty strong," says Lau, "we lost to a good Greenwood squad that ended up getting pretty far. So our hope is that we have most of our pitching back so we hope to be able to improve on last year's season.
The Lancers are scheduled to host a triangular at Carson Park on Saturday.
