Councilperson accused of attacking wife and stepson accepts deal

PRESCOTT - A western Wisconsin city council member reaches a deal on charges that he attacked his wife and teenaged stepson.

Jeremy Shanklin, a member of the Prescott City Council, was arrested last December for allegedly putting the teen in a chokehold and hitting him several times. Police say he also threw his wife to the ground and choked her.

Wednesday, felony charges were reduced to misdemeanors and Shanklin pleaded guilty. He was put on probation for three years and cannot drink during that time.

His probation agent was ordered to consider anger management classes for Shanklin. Despite the criminal charges, Shanklin ran for re-election to the city council, and won the election earlier this month.
