UPDATE: EC armed robbery suspect posts bond

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The man accused in the armed robbery of an Eau Claire pharmacy is free Friday.

Donald Mickelson post $500 cash bond Friday and was released. Mickelson has now been charged with robbing the Value Center Pharmacy on East Clairemont on Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, the store had just closed when Mickelson knocked on the door and said he was there to pick up a prescription. He was allowed inside, where an employee says Mickelson pointed a gun at him and demanded Ritalin.

It turns out the gun was actually a toy gun that was apparently shoplifted minutes earlier from the nearby K-Mart store.

Eau Claire (Press Release) - On April 17, 2013 at 6:17 p.m., the Eau Claire Communication Center received a 911 call from the Value Center Pharmacy located at 2421 E. Clairemont Avenue in the City of Eau Claire.

An employee of the pharmacy reported that a male had just entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded medications. The male then fled the pharmacy with an undisclosed amount of prescription medication.

Officers from the Eau Claire Police Department and deputies from the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department responded, secured the scene and checked the area for the suspect. Within minutes, an Eau Claire Police Department officer identified a suspect in the case.

Eau Claire Police Department patrol officers and Eau Claire Police Department detectives worked collaboratively to gather additional evidence that led to the arrest of Donald J. Mickelson, 40, of Eau Claire for armed robbery.

Mickelson is scheduled to appear in Eau Claire County Circuit Court for an initial appearance Thursday.
