MADISON (WKOW) -- Spring is in the air, but for millions of Americans, that means a runny nose, cough and stuffiness brought on by allergies.

Many experts are predicting 2013 will be one of the worst allergy seasons on record, and it could be especially bad for those in our area. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has ranked Madison the twelfth worst city in the nation, and third in the Midwest, for those who suffer from allergies.

Spring allergy symptoms are typically triggered by tree pollen, but grass pollen can also cause an issue during the spring.

Doctors suggest if your symptoms are relatively mild in nature, it's fine to try an over-the-counter antihistamine. However; if you're symptoms are more serious, it's a good idea to go see a doctor.

Dr. Katherine Gongaza joins us on 27 News at 5 on Thursday to give some advice on how you can make this allergy season a little better.
