Student who carried unloaded weapon on campus arrested

LA CROSSE (WKOW) -- A University of La Crosse student has been arrested after carrying an unloaded hunting rifle on campus.

Chancellor Joe Gow says police arrested the part-time student at his apartment Thursday after receiving a report he was walking on campus with a gun.  The UW-L campus never went into a lockdown as police quickly found him.

Our sister station in La Crosse, WXOW-TV, reports the university says the student had earlier made threats to campus administrators.

No injuries were reported and no shots fired, and authorities say there are no further threats to the university.
