MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A Milwaukee police officer accused of illegal strip searches has accepted a plea deal.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports 34-year-old Michael Vagnini accepted a deal Monday that would not require him to become a registered sex offender but will prevent him from continuing his law enforcement career.

Vagnini had faced 25 criminal charges stemming from eight strip and cavity searches.

Vagnini pleaded no contest to four felony charges and four misdemeanors. As part of the plea bargain, sexual assault charges were dropped. The state will recommend prison time when he is sentenced June 21.

According to state law, only medical personnel are to perform cavity searches and only after police obtain a search warrant.

Three other officers are charged in the case and face trial in June.
